“Rapid, 1
to 5 Minute, Daily Defrags Along With A Hard Drive
Optimized For Maximum Performance”
Specifically For Use With Today's Large Hard Drive
The modern hard
drive is getting bigger by the day and so is the amount
of data that is making its way onto your hard drive.
Performance of the mechanical hard drive, while getting
better, is not keeping up with the performance increase
in processing power. As your hard drive begins to fill:
300 Gb, 400 Gb, 500 Gb, you may be discouraged to defrag
it and keep it running at optimum performance. 500 Gb
can take hours to defrag. You probably think to
yourself, "What a drag!" By seeing it this way,
unfortunately, you penalize yourself in terms of PC
performance by not defragging regularly.
What if we told
you that you can keep your hard drive defragged and
running at optimum performance with a 1 to 5 minute
daily defrag? "What software product can help me do
that?" you ask. UltimateDefrag, of course. ...And you
don't even have to be there. It only takes a few minutes
to configure and then just schedule it to run overnight
on a daily basis!
How and Why
Can UltimateDefrag Do That When No Other Defragmentation
Software Can?
UltimateDefrag takes full advantage of the immutable,
and ubiquitous, universal law - The Pareto Principle.
That is - 80% of the time you only use 20% of the files
on your hard drive. Our research shows that it is even
more skewed that that! 90% of the time, you only use
about 5 to 10% of the files on your hard drive. So while
you might have 700 Gb of data on your drive, you only
regularly use and access 35 to 70 Gb of that data on a
day to day basis averaged out over the past 30 days.
So the
question you might ask yourself is why would you, or
should you, defrag the other 600+ Gb of data? Why would
you need to? And why would you cause that wear and tear
on your hard drive?
With
UltimateDefrag, you won't need to defrag all of that
data and you won't need to cause the wear and tear on
your hard drive. (Not that hard drives aren't resilient.
They are! It's a matter of why put it through all that
work when you don't need to!)
Now,
while you only regularly use about 10% of that data
(citing the above example of 50 to 70 Gb), and that is
all you need to defrag, using our technique outlined
below, (that you can only perform with UltimateDefrag)
on a day to day basis, you only actually move and defrag
2 to 5 Gb. So your defrags are completed anywhere
between 1 to 5 minutes, most of the time.
What's
even more important is that this technique places the
data you regularly use onto the fastest performing areas
of your hard drive for performance 400% better than
quoted factory averages.
So
using this technique you are:
1. Completing daily
defrags in 1 to 5 minutes
2. Totally
optimizing and maximizing your hard drive performance!
Protect
Fragmentation With FragProtect!
The
technique that enables you to defrag your massive hard
drive and massive amounts of data in 1 to 5 minutes is
made possible with UltimateDefrag's FragProtect feature,
that organizes your files in a manner that minimizes
overall refragmentation of your data.
Let's Get
To It!
This
technique is really easy to setup since the principles
behind it are the foundation of UltimateDefrag. Please
understand that the first time you run this technique it
could take a good few hours since UltimateDefrag needs
to rearrange your files according to your file usage
patterns. How does UltimateDefrag know your file usage
patterns? It analyzes them each time you run it and
stores them in a database (TFU.DB) in your
UltimateDefrag subdirectory.
We are
going to show you 2 methods.
Method #1
uses the archive method to move your rarely used files
to the inner tracks on your hard drive. This can take a
while for the first run and is for those wanting a
"clean" final layout.
Method #2
only focuses on the most recently used data and
completely ignores the rest of your data (rarely used).
It does move the rarely used data out of the way to
enable your most frequently used data to move to the
high performance area of your hard drive but it leaves
it to wherever it has moved to. This is much faster than
Method 1 the first time you run it.
At the
end of the day either method is equally suitable.

METHOD
#1: SLOWER INITIAL FIRST RUN
Getting Your Rarely Used Data Out Of The Way
We're going to get use an arbitrary figure of 31
days or greater for the last average time we
accessed our data so that any files we have not
accessed in the past 31 days are going to the inner
zone of our drive. (You can use 61 days or 91 days
or whatever period suits you. We find 31 to be the
best). This is the slowest performing area of our
hard drive. We rarely use those files so we don't
care about the reduced performance if ever we do
rarely access one or more of those files.
To
do this - go to Settings => General
and under archive select Automatic. Enter 31 and
then from the pull down menu to the right select
Past Days Data Was Not Used. Please see the screen
below.

What we are achieving with the above configuration
is that we are placing all files we have not used in
the past 31 days to the inner zone of our hard drive
and out of the way of our frequently accessed data.
This is all you need to do to configure your defrag.
Configuring the Defrag Options
The
next (and only other step) is to configure the
defrag options.
Select CONSOLIDATE defrag method and select Options.
Then set the options like the screen below. The
options are self explanatory.

Running the Defrag.
All
you need to do after that is to press START and let
UltimateDefrag do it's thing.
Please note that the first time you run this, it
could take hours while it lays out your files. Be
patient, go for a long walk, go to bed, or if you
like you can still use your computer.
Once It's Done
Once UltimateDefrag has laid out your files
according to the above options. You are done. Run
this daily (settings are remembered) and each time
you run it you will be amazed at how quickly your
defrags are completed - in 1 to 5 minutes.
Why? Because all you are now defragging on a day to
day basis is the files you have used in the past 30
days. It equates to around 10% off your overall
data. On top of that the FragProtect option has laid
out this 10% of data so that even most of your most
used data stays in place and doesn't need to be
moved or defragged on a day to day basis.
What will happen on a day to day basis from this
point forward is that only fragmented files will be
defragmented by the UltimateDefrag. A few of your
regularly used files might get moved around in the
outer track zone that they are in as they find their
"home".
What you will also find on a day to day basis is
that some files may move out of archive and into
your regularly used file area if their usage is
increased and some regularly used files will move
into the archive zone if their average daily use
falls beyond an average of at least once every 30
days.
So
you have set up:
1. A
self maintaining system of 1 to 5 minute daily
defrags and
2.
Hard drive that now performs 400% that of quoted
factory averages.
3. All
this on a massive hard drive with massive amounts
of data!
Please note that no other defragmentation software
in the world enables you to do this. Only
UltimateDefrag gives you this power and flexibility.
To Schedule It.
Just create a schedule and select CONSOLIDATE and
the options outlined in the above screen. Set it to
run daily. It is important that you don't change the
settings in the Settings screen since UltimateDefrag
will use the settings when it does the scheduled
daily defrag you have scheduled.

METHOD
#2: FASTER INITIAL RUN. IGNORES YOUR RARELY USED
DATA. FOCUSES ONLY ON FREQUENTLY USED DATA.
Determining Your Most Frequently Used Data.
We're going to get use an arbitrary figure of 30
days or less for the last average time we accessed
our data. So that any files we have not accessed in
the past 30 days are going to moved moved just
outside of the high performance zone of our drive.
(You can use 60 days or 90 days or whatever period
suits you. We find 30 to be the best). We rarely use
those files so we don't care about the reduced
performance and we don't care where they are on our
hard drive as long as they are not in the High
Performance Zone.
To
do this - go to Settings => General
and under High Perfomance select Automatic. Enter 30
and then from the pull down menu to the right select
Past Days Data Was Used. Please see the screen
below.

What we are achieving with the above configuration
is that we are placing all files we used, on
average, in the past 30 days to the outermost zone
of our hard drive. This is where the performance is
greatest.
This is all you need to do to configure your defrag.
Configuring the Defrag Options
The
next (and only other step) is to configure the
defrag options.
Select CONSOLIDATE defrag method and select Options.
Then set the options like the screen below. The
options require a little explanation. With the top 2
selected options relating to High Performance. The
defrag is only going to processed High Performance
data (that used in the past 30 days). Once that is
done, the whole defrag process will stop yet we have
achieved our goal of placing ONLY files used in the
past 30 days into the High Performance zone of our
drive. So even with 700 Gb worth of data, we have
only dealt with 70 Gb or so. We have effectively
defragged only 10% of the files on our drive and
that is all we need to.

Running the Defrag.
All
you need to do after that is to press START and let
UltimateDefrag do it's thing.
Please note that the first time you run this, it
could take a little while (maybe around 1 hour) but
not not nearly as long as method 1 above.
A few of your
regularly used files might get moved around in the
outer track zone that they are in as they find their
"home".
What you will also find on a day to day basis is
that some files may move out of HP and into your
rarely used file area if their usage is decreased
and some rarely used files will move into the HP
zone if their average daily use increases to an
average of at least once every 30 days.
So
you have set up:
1. A
self maintaining system of 1 to 5 minute daily
defrags and
2.
Hard drive that now performs 400% that of quoted
factory averages.
3. All
this on a massive hard drive with massive amounts
of data!
Please note that no other defragmentation software
in the world enables you to do this. Only
UltimateDefrag gives you this power and flexibility.
To Schedule It.
Just create a schedule and select CONSOLIDATE and
the options outlined in the above screen. Set it to
run daily. It is important that you don't change the
settings in the Settings screen since UltimateDefrag
will use the settings when it does the scheduled
daily defrag you have scheduled.

How Do We
Defrag At Disktrix?
Most of
our office PC's are defragged using Method #1. We used
Method #2 on some PC's just to monitor the difference
between both methods.
Don’t Settle For Less Than Optimal PC Performance
Sure,
you can use the default FREE Windows defragger but with
FREE you get what you pay for. It defrags, but nothing is
done to optimize hard drive performance and it certainly
can’t defrag massive hard drives with massive amounts of
data in 1 to 5 minutes.
Sure,
you can use another defragger from the 30 or so that are
out there on the market. Some are free, some cost $10
and some cost $100. But all you’re getting with any of
them are just “defraggers”. None of them enable to you
defrag massive hard drives with massive amounts of data
in 1 to 5 minutes.
Only UltimateDefrag 3
does that.
